What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters International is a training and educational organization that teaches its members communication, leadership, training and management skills and builds their self-confidence.

Has toastmasters been around for long?

Toastmasters was founded over 85 years ago and is now in 80 countries around the world with approximately 15,000 clubs.  There are over 500 clubs in Australia with over 5,000 members.  As a Toastmaster you will be welcome in any of the clubs around the world.

What will you learn?

In a Toastmasters club you will learn many skills such as:  Chairmanship, how to give impromptu speeches; how to give prepared speeches; how to evaluate who you hear and see; and you will develop self-confidence.

How do I join Toastmasters?

You are welcome to come to the club as a guest for a few meetings to see if you feel comfortable in the club.  Once you decide to join, it is a simple matter of completing a membership form and paying a once only joining fee and six months of membership fees.  Shortly after you join you will receive a New Member Kit which contains your Competent Communicator Manual and The Competent Leadership Manual.

What happens when you join Toastmasters?

When you first join you will be assigned a mentor to help you with your first few speaking roles.  At first you will be given short, easier assignments, and as you gain in confidence, the speaking opportunities grow with you.  You will be asked to participate in various roles in the meeting to help you gain confidence and leadership skills.
